Magazines, Travel and Middlebrow Culture Seminar

The CWRC pilot project ‘Magazines, Travel and Middlebrow Culture in Canada 1925-1960’ held an Advanced Research Seminar for its advisory board members on 24 and 25 May 2012. The event was hosted at Carleton University and the Arc Hotel in Ottawa. Participants were invited to prepare papers responding to one or more of the words in the project title. These were circulated in advance and presented briefly, with illustrations, during the seminar. Most of the time was devoted to discussion.

The event was organised by the project researchers, Faye Hammill and Michelle Smith, and it included a mini CWRCshop run by Susan Brown. The full programme, with paper abstracts, is available on the project website. Advisory board members came from the Canada, the UK and Australia, and two places were reserved for graduate student participants. Papers will be published as a special journal issue in 2013.
